Husbando and I have a system.  You probably have a similar arrangement.

We alternate nights of who cooks dinner in our household.  Generally it's me on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, he takes Wednesdays and Fridays, and we eat leftovers the other two days. That means, though, that the person who has that particular night has to be the decision maker.  You know where I'm going with this - you cook, you have to decide what to MAKE for dinner.  Because often before we had The System, there would be many conversations like this:

"What do you want for dinner?"

"I don't care.  Whatever."

Well, too bad I can't whip up a fresh batch of I Don't Care with a side of Whatever. Therefore, someone has to be in charge on their night.  However, more often than not, we like to try new things and surprise each other with dinners. So sometimes when the conversation comes up, and say, for example, it's my night, here's how it might go:

Monday Night

"What are you doing for dinner tonight?"

"The same thing I do every night.   Try to take over the world."*

"NARF."

Tuesday Night

"What are we having for dinner?"

"Poison."

"Oh, that's my favorite."

Wednesday Night

"What are you cooking for dinner?"

"Gruel."

"I figured."

Thursday  Night

"Do you have any preferences on dinner tonight?"

"I don't care."

"Well start carin', carpenter!"**

Friday  Night

"What's for dinner?"

"Fresh TaunTaun*** guts."

"Well, sure, wouldn't want them to go to waste."

Saturday Night

"What's the food situation tonight?"

"Wow, is lobstar! Yeah, I like lobstar, yeah, woah!"****

"Are we actually having lobster?"

"Of course not."

"I'm going to murder you in your sleep."

Sunday Night

"What's for dinner tonight?"

"A case of Hamdingers with some Cowboy Mike's Original Red-Hot Rico-CHEEEEEEEET Barbecue Sauce!"*****

"Why did I marry you, again?"

What's your "What's for Dinner" conversation normally like?  Who decides what's for dinner, and how do you choose it?

Cookingly yours,
Behka

*Pinky and the Brain, people.

**Yes, that is a joke I regularly make.  It's a play on the name of the lead singer of the seventies band The Carpenters, Karen Carpenter.  I know.  I'll see myself out.

***Star Wars.  You know the part.

****Just,...... this.

*****You might be forgiven for not knowing this one.  It's two references to Mystery Science Theater 3000, an old show I love that some people get and some people just don't. If you don't know it, you should look it up on the internetz.
