This is a peak alert message from Central Missouri Electric Cooperative.

Though your cooperative’s system is healthy and performing well in this extreme cold, decreasing the use of major appliances during the hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily this week can help reduce power generation strains to which we have been alerted in our region and reduce our cooperative’s power costs in the coming years.

Decreasing the use of major appliances during peak times, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily this week, will help this effort.  We appreciate your consideration as we look to keep costs low and support power needs of our region.

Tips to help reduce power usage:

Turn down your thermostat a few degrees and use a blanket or warm clothing to help conserve energy and stay warm.

Limit the use of larger appliances such as laundry or dishwashers.

Use smaller kitchen appliances like toaster ovens, microwaves and slow cookers to make meals, rather than relying on your range or oven.

Be sure to turn off and unplug space heaters that you don't need to use. Be mindful of the amount of time you utilize a space heater and reduce, if possible.

Keep fireplace dampers closed when not in use.

Unplug/turn off unused electronics, chargers, and lights.

Again, we appreciate your current and future efforts as we maintain operations through this historic week.
