The Rocheport Area Merchants Association says Rocheport is looking for volunteers to help sandbag the town today, Wednesday May 22, according to their Facebook page.

Efforts will resume at 8:00AM CST across the street from the Meriwether Cafe & Bike Shop, 700 First Street, Rocheport. Sandbaging efforts got underway Tuesday afternoon.

The association's Facebook post also got mentioned in a Columbia Missourian article talking about how Governor Parson declared a state of emergency because of Tuesday's flash flooding. According to the newspaper article Amtrak also suspended service on it's Missouri River Runner route today and Thursday and their Southwest Chief route between Hutchinson, Kansas and Kansas City.

While Monday night's storms and Tuesday's heavy rain did pose some challenges for us here in Sedalia, the storms could cause longer term problems for river towns, like Rocheport, along the Missouri and Mississippi. If you have time to help them protect their town today, do it!
