Okay, so I haven't done much, or any, Halloween decorating.  I mean, I'm as ready for it to be Spooky Time as much as anybody else. But some of ya'll have the itch and you have it now.  So, what can you do, other than put your giant spider on your roof again? You can make a scarecrow!  And, you can do it as a way to bond with your community.  How can you do that, gentle reader? With the Sedalia Parks and Recreation Department's new Scarecrow Contest!  Here's how it works, according to their Facebook page:

Join your neighbors for this fun community challenge and build your own scarecrow! Make yours scary or funny, silly or ridiculous, this is your chance to express yourself. The contest is open to Sedalia residents and businesses but you must register for free online in order to compete www.sedaliaparks.com!

You do have to register, so they know you're doing the contest and not just doing normal decorations like you do every year.  Now don't get out of line, keep it family friendly.  So you can be creative, but no gross gore or political stuff or religious stuff and no, you know advertising or anything. You can totally use your creative vibes on the rest of it though.  Your guy has got to survive the weather and be hand made, but you totally use props, hay bales, and if you're super handy, motion.

I didn't see anything about a prize for the winner, but it might be just for bragging rights.

They do have prizes. 1st place: $100 gift card to local business and 1st place winner yard sign. 2nd: $75 gift card to local business and 2nd place winner yard sign. 3rd: $50 gift card to local business and 3rd place winner yard sign.

You've got to get your guy up by October 18th, they're gonna judge that next week, and then they'll announce the winner on the 29th.  I'm definitely interested in seeing what you guys will get up to with your scarecrows!

Scaringly yours,
Behka
