All Aboard! Your Dream Job Driving a Tiny Train Awaits in Sedalia

Gentle Reader, everyone who grew up in Sedalia "has a park".  I think you know what I mean by that.  When growing up, your park was the park nearest your house.  The one you'd be able to walk to if you were told to "go play outside".  The one your parents took you to when they needed to let you run and work out some energy while they relaxed.

Of course, Sedalia has a ton of parks, and it's something that surprises guests.  Vermont Park, Katy Park, Hubbard Park, Housel Park, Clover Dell, Centennial... we have a lot. But the one nearest my house, the one growing up that was "my park", was Liberty Park.  We would walk to the park or to the pool on hot summer days, and it seemed like every family party and birthday was at least considered to be held there.

The Difference With Liberty Park

One of the best parts of Liberty Park, to me as a kid, was the Liberty Land Train.  I think back in the day we called it the Liberty Flyer? And there was always a nice older man driving it, wearing a big red Shriner Hat. Or I might be misremembering that part.  He might not have been a Shriner. I think the Optimists also took care of the train?  I don't know. I do remember sitting in those little hot seats, screaming when it came time to go through the tunnel, and wishing Grandma had brought more quarters to the park.

It was magic.

Because that's the only reason we stopped riding the train, right?  We ran out of quarters.  Not because she was tired and wanted to drop me off at home.  

You Can Be Involved

Well now, you can part of that magic.  You can be the nice adult that's driving the train!

Sedalia Parks & Rec. is looking for dependable, energetic individuals to operate the Liberty Land Train at Moore’s Train House in Liberty Park!

Honestly, this sounds like the dream job for the right person.  They only need someone for a few hours on weekends (Sat 11–3, Sun 1–4), and ya gotta be 18.  But if you're someone who is retired and just wants to get out of the house a little, a SAHM that wants to get out of the house more, a young person who wants to work with kids, or if you're just someone who really likes trains, this gig is probably for you.

What You'll Do:

• Safely operate the train as both Conductor and Engineer
• Help guests on and off the train and deliver safety briefings
• Keep rides running smoothly while creating a memorable experience for families

So basically, be safe and keep people safe.  Not that hard.  Of course, you probably shouldn't expect to suddenly become financially independent from this job, but I doubt that's why you're doing it anyway.  And, it's pretty easy to apply, you can do it right here.
