Report: Saline County the Most Obese County in Missouri
A new report indicates the most obese counties in each state in America. In Missouri, Saline County is reportedly the most obese, with an obesity rate over 7% higher than the statewide average.
According to KSDK, the obesity rate in Saline County is 37.6%. Overall in Missouri the rate is 30.4%. Other factors indicated in the report include the percentage of adults who do not exercise, the rate of diabetes in adults, and the poverty rate. All three metrics for Saline County were higher than the statewide average.
In neighboring states, Seward County was ranked as most obese in Kansas. Adams County was most obese in Illinois. Thurston County, Nebraska, Union County, Iowa, McNairy County, Tennessee, Washita County, Oklahoma, Leslie County, Kentucky, and Phillips County, Arkansas were the most obese counties in the rest of the Missouri border states.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that over a third of adult Americans have obesity. "Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death," says the CDC.
