For the last five years, every summer we've  been lucky enough here in Sedalia to host an annual Firefighters Memorial Bike run.  This year, it looks like we're going to get an even bigger and better event that will take over all of Sedalia!

The Midwest Herofest is an event honoring all the Heroes in our community, including: Firefighters, Law Enforcement officers, EMS, and all Military Service Men and Women. The day will kick off with the Midwest Hero Dash- 5k Run/Walk, the Sedalia Firefighter Memorial Ride will follow, and many Hero Fest activities in Downtown Sedalia.

The 5th Annual Sedalia Local 103 Firefighter Memorial Ride will combine with a 5K run/walk on June 21.  There will be activities for the kids, the Pettis County Fire department will be demonstrating the “Jaws of Life”, live music, concessions, car seat event, bicycle rodeo and more.  The Run and Ride will begin and end at Liberty Park.  It will be a 5k run and walk on Saturday, June 21.  It’ll be at Liberty Park, 1500 West 3rd street, beginning at 8:00 a.m.  Registration can be done online at www.raceroster.com or by mailing in to Hero Fest, 6104 Blue Jay Blvd, Sedalia.  Registration fee is $25 before race day, and on race day it’s $30.  Registration fee includes commemorative t-shirt and challenge coin.  Registration the morning of the race will begin at 7:00 a.m.  Race begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.

The bike ride begins at Liberty Park and ends at Fitters with prizes awarded at 4:30 p.m.  The ride leaves at 11 a.m., and all wheels are welcome, rain or shine. Breakfast will be available with proceeds going to the Boys and Girls Club of Sedalia.  I got to talk with one of the organizers of the event, Sedalia Fire Captain Donnie Sattler, about the big changes to this year's event and all the fun they have planned.

If you have any questions, contact the Sedalia Fire Headquarters at 826-4044.   Pre-registration and shirt are $15 each. Registration on the day of the event starts at 8 am and ends at 10:30 a.m., with the fee at $20. For race information call Stefanie Sattler at 221-7792.  For Ride information, call Donnie Sattler at 221-6790. You can register for the race online here, and you can also find out more information about the whole day at their Facebook page, and you can also email Stefanie at stefanies357@yahoo.com.
