Someone Out There Really Loves Hamburgers…..and Their Community
Gentle Reader, you guys know how I am when it comes to a local story about people doing good things. I'd say I'm a sucker for stories like that, but that implies that someone's being fooled or tricked? I don't know. The English language is confusing. Here's what I do know. Some acts of kindness are quiet, but they still make a big impact. And a pretty hearty dinner.
Recently, on the social media page of the Salvation Army of Pettis County, they told us all about it, and it warmed a lot of hearts.
An anonymous donor recently purchased 100 pounds of ground beef from Kempf’s Custom Butchering, with one goal: get it into the hands of local families in need. When Kempf’s heard it was all headed to the Salvation Army food pantry, they didn’t just offer a generous discount — they also donated over 30 slabs of beef rib portions themselves.
No fanfare. No press conference. Just a whole lot of high-quality protein quietly making its way into freezers across the community.

The meat will be handed out through the Salvation Army’s food pantry program, which serves families and individuals who need a little help putting food on the table. Between the ground beef and the ribs, that’s a whole lot of spaghetti nights, chili pots, backyard grills, and smiling faces. Faces of families with full bellies. Of course it means so much to the kids, but... for those parents that are skipping meals and worrying about how to provide for their families? It's... inexplicable.
Kempf’s Custom Butchering, known for their local meats and customer service, didn’t hesitate to step up. That's not unusual. We've heard about them stepping up for their fellow West Central Missourians before.
It's one of those little things we're proud of as customers.
"Oh, this beef is amazing, where'd you get it?"
"Oh, I got it from Kempf's. You know, they're the ones that donated all that meat to the Salvation Army."
"Oh! I heard about that down at church! I'm gonna have to go get some myself as a thank you."
"I know it. They're so good to us, we want to be good to them, you know?"
As for the anonymous donor......well, they may not want credit, but they’ve definitely earned a few grateful nods from folks headed home with a solid dinner plan. Sometimes generosity looks like a check. Sometimes it looks like a brown paper package filled with something delicious.
Either way, it matters.
Donatingly yours,
Behka
