What do you do with old cleaning products? Old batteries? Antifreeze? Garden Pesticides etc. when you don't want or need them anymore. Just putting them out with the garbage can be risky, not to mention environmentally unfriendly. In Johnson County residents can take these types of items to one of several household waste disposal events offered by Johnson County Emergency Management.

What can you dispose of at Johnson County's household waste disposal events? Aerosols, batteries, used oil, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, herbicides, garden chemicals, household cleaners and fluorescent bulbs. Small electronic waste will be accepted such as computers, monitors, printers, radios and televisions.

What can't you take to one of these events: Explosives, ammunition, latex paint, asbestos, smoke alarms, radioactive waste, unlabeled items, medical waste (human or animal), tires or small household appliances.

The Johnson County Emergency Management Agency collection site is at 326 E. North Street in the red building across from road and bridge. Household waste disposal times are 9:00AM - 1:00PM CST on the following dates:

  • Saturday April 18
