I Know I Need Them, But Notifications Drive Me Crazy
So part of the gig here is stuff online and on social media networks.
It's just part and parcel with it. We write stuff, we post it for you to see, and we post it for others to see. I probably wouldn't be very active on a site like Facebook if I didn't have to have one for work. But yeah, I do have to have one, and I have to be an administrator for several pages. The country station one, this one, and the news one, as well as a page for our sale stuff.
And yes, I acknowledge I need to be told when someone likes something or when someone comments, that's good stuff to know. But the little notification numbers just drive me bonkers. There's something about them that just... gnaws at my soul. It's definitely a first world problem that only whiners whine about, right?
Look at them. Taunting me. Mocking me. I feel the need to clear them immediately. Like, before they even happen. I can't understand people who can just leave them there. How can you just stare at those little numbers and do nothing? And the little red numbers at the top of the page! Those are torture to look at. My Dad does that on his Facebook. Red numbers on the top of the page, three digits even. I don't get it. I mean, I don't even necessarily even have to read all the notifications, I just want the little numbers gone. I am happy only when the little numbers are not there to taunt me.
THE POP UP. That's got to be one of the worst. Even if I want to know something, which clearly I do because I pushed notifications, drives me batty. I have to x it out immediately. I can't imagine a scenario where I would just let that sit there. I know it probably goes away eventually after a period of time, but I will never know that period of time because it's gone in like, two seconds.
It's even worse on my phone. I can't just let an email notification on my phone sit there. I'll get rid of the notification before I read the email. Swiped right. Or a Tik Tok notification. Swiped With A Quickness. Or a notification from one of the two games I play. Swiped With Predjudice. Text message notification? SWIPED BEFORE I READ THE TEXT.
I was actually holding my phone when this one popped up. GONE. I won't even open the game (I'm at work, duh), but I'll get rid of that little red one so fast it'll make your fingers spin. Is that a saying? I guess it is now.
Why, though, why they bug me, I have no idea. Maybe it's like an organizational thing? Maybe it's the red color itself? Your teachers used to grade in red pen, and that was almost always bad, so maybe I'm associating it with that. Maybe I just need a clear screen because that means I'm taking care of what I need to? I have no idea.
Are you a "leave the notification" person or a "mark it read" person, or are you somewhere in between? Surely I can't be the only one who does this. I mean, I know I'm a little "diffurnt" as my Mom would say, but there have to be others.
Notifyingly yours,
Behka
