Gentle Reader, today we have yet another Taste Test!  Here I am, trying those new flavors of chips for you.  That way, if you don't want to plunk down what can be seven dollars (!!!!) for a bag of chips you aren't even sure you'll like, you're set.

NJ and I love to go to a place in Columbia called Hong Kong Market. They have all sorts of stuff that's just hard to get over here. Drinks, frozen stuff, booze, dishes, homemade food, and of course, snacks. We've enjoyed many a Japanese Kit Kat we got there. Don't get it twisted, we go to Lee's sometimes, but it's.... well, it's just hard to get there for me. It's downtown and the parking is very tight, but we go there. We also go to Shwe Market sometimes. They're friendly and sweet, but it is a smaller shop. So of the three, we prefer Hong Kong just because it has more stuff. But all the places have all kinds of interesting flavors in snacks and treats.

So of course, when we can try those flavors in snack form....without driving for an hour, we jump on that.  Clearly.  So we saw this flavor and decided to give it a go!

Here's what they have to say about it:

Lay's has released a new, limited-edition Thai-Style Red Curry flavored potato chip. These chips are inspired by the flavors of Thailand and are described as having a savory profile with a subtle kick of heat.

Well, first of all, I would not describe these as spicy.  They're not a spicy flavor that brings heat.  There's a little, tiny bit, but it's so slight it's almost an afterthought. I did get a lot of curry, and a little aftertaste of coconut.

There isn't a super strong smell when I open the bag.  I admit, I was hoping these would be a bit.... more intense than they are.

The chips themselves aren't anything remarkable  - they're just normal.  By that I mean, they're not wavy or kettle crisped or anything.  They're a normal consistency.  In fact, looking at them, you could be forgiven for just thinking they're a barbecue chip.

Overall, this wasn't.... I don't know.  Bold enough for me?  When I think about Thai food, I think of super flavorful, diverse dishes.  And Thai Curry, I've had before.  This, sir, is no Thai Curry.  Don't get me wrong.  It's fine.  It might be fine for someone wanting to dip their toes into curry if they haven't tried it before.  But... this just could have been so much better.   These were... disappointingly average.

Thaiingly yours,
Behka
