Finally some snow and cold! It looks like winter went to the woods and sat before and during the snow this week. The deer didn't mind, and I thought it was awesome. The woods were quiet with the occasional shot during the second youth weekend. The deer were moving and I saw several small bucks, but not the shooter I wanted. The does wouldn't get close enough for my liking.
Christmas is over and the new year is right around the corner. The Hoffert Christmas was great. When the problems in America have you down, you surround yourself with God, family and friends and it all seems to go on the back burner.
It’s been a different kind of week leading up to the holiday. As many of you know, I don’t bite my tongue. The events that unfolded last week at Sandy Hook make me sick and confused. Whether you say it or not, you feel for the parents, children and their community.
Christmas is getting closer, the weather feels like spring and the end of the world is just around the corner (just kidding). The alternative methods for deer hunting start this Saturday (Dec 15). Bow season is still going on and plans for 3D archery are in the works for January. In facts, dates will be posted next week regarding a big announcement about the 3D season.
It seems that spring has come early, so enjoy it while you can. The lack of rain and snow will impact a lot of outdoor activities this season, everything from hunting to fishing to canoeing.
Rifle season has come to an end and black powder season is about to begin. The season has been changed this year to include crossbow, pistol with a barrel length of 14" or less, a spear with a name I can't pronounce and, of course, muzzleloader. It should be a great alternative methods season.
