Huntin' Harry
I hope everyone had a great weekend last week and that all of the moms had an even greater Mother's Day. We had our kids Fishin' for a Cure that weekend at Liberty Park, and it was awesome. It was packed with over 100 kids and lots of families with everyone enjoying the outdoor activities
Okay, the snow in May was enough. I've never hunted turkeys in snow like that. What fun it was, 33 degree cold, wet, windy and on the last week of turkey season. One good thing about the weather is that it seems to be getting better and starting to get back to normal. Of course, this is Missouri, so you will have to "Show-Me."
Okay, I'm not going to give the weather any more chances. It was 80. Then it was in the 30s. I'm going to boycott the weather, because when the shorts come out, they stay out.
The last week of turkey season was a little tough, for me anyway. Crappie are being caught and people are finding mushrooms. The time is upon us and that makes me happy happy happy.
Thanks to everybody, from the landowners who allow us to hunt on their land to everyone who attended out Whitetails Unlimited Banquet and those who sponsor our events. Our youth weekend was a great success, with five out of the six kids getting their first turkeys and three out of the four Wounded Warriors getting their birds last weekend.
What can I say? I give up on this weather. What do you do when you get up on the first weekend of turkey season and it's 35 degrees outside? Well, you put on more clothes, grab your swamp boots and maybe a boat to get to that field those thunder chickens have been strutting in. It's going to be fun.
I've started my blog posts with the weather every day for the last two months. I thought the crazy weather changes were over and done with. I can deal with a 15-20 degree temperature change, this IS Missouri. But come on, from the 70s to the 30s? This is just ridiculous.
The weather is looking up and it seems like the weather roller coaster is over. I hope they shut it down. Well, let's start with some fishin'. Where are they catching them? In the water. No really, they are.
Well, the Easter Bunny is on his way, the snow is gone for now. I heard we could have two more snow storms, and one of them could be a whopper. I hope not, because if it snows next week, we'll have to hunt turkeys in snow camo and snow shoes. That won't be fun, so let's pray for no snow.
The weather roller coaster is on another wild ride, and this time I have to say that mother nature is a motha and groundhogs are on my most wanted list. The only way for me to feel better is to get out my AR and run a couple hundred rounds through it, then shoot my pistol, a few shotguns, more rifles, and then start all over with my other AR. Then I'll clean them, because the smell of gunpowder and cleaning solvent is the essence of fun.
We're back on the weather roller coaster, 20s and 30s through the first part of the week and then back to 50s and 60s. I know one thing, I'm ready for spring crappie fishing, turkey killin', 3D shootin', campin' and fishin'. Man, that's what's coming right around the corner. We'll be posting fishing reports starting in April along with tournament dates. So get a new line on those reels and knock the dust off your tackle box, because it's right around the corner.
