You Could Have A Lifesaving Feature In Your Car And Not Know It

I've never personally been in this situation, but you might be someday.Every now and then you hear about a sad story where a parent or just an adult has accidentally left their baby or little one in the back seat of a hot car.  It's not always bad parenting, sometimes it really is just a big misunderstanding.  Like I said, I've never been in that situation, so I can't really judge it.  But, hopefully, there might be a solution to the problem so it never happens again.

There's a new bill going through the House called the Hot Cars Act of 2019.  Basically it would require all new vehicles to have a feature called a rear seat reminder.  So when you're leaving your car, it gives you a little beep to remind you that someone or something is back there. Kinda like how when you don't have your seat belt fastened, or if you leave the headlights on, it beeps at you.

And actually, you might already have this feature on your car and not even know it. Some models of Nissan and Honda already have it, you just have to enable it in your settings on the screen.  General Motors is going to voluntarily start adding the feature to some of their Buicks, Cadillacs, Escalades Chevrolets.  There are also free apps like “The Backseat” that’ll send you alerts when you arrive at your destination to check your back seat.

I think it could be good to have this, after all, wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry?  If there's a way to prevent a tragedy from happening, wouldn't you take it? I never did have kids of my own, so I don't know what the life of a parent is like, or how hectic it can get.  My mom used to tell me about something she called "pregnancy brain"  that made her very forgetful for a few months while she carried us and after she had us. If it's one more thing to help a mom, why not?
