What You Need To Know Ahead of This Late Winter Storm

Winter weather is getting ready to hit us again with a late winter storm impacting most of the Sedalia and Warrensburg area on Thursday, March 10 through Friday, March 11. Here's what you need to know.

MoDOT Is Pre-treating the roads 

The Missouri Department of Transportation is already out treating the roads ahead of the expected winter weather tonight and tomorrow. They will be out overnights plowing as needed and working until after the storm is over and major roads are clear. Additionally, MoDOT says to expect slick spots on Thursday and Friday during your morning commute and give the plows room to work. This is according to a Facebook post from MoDOT Kansas City.

Cities to put their Emergency Snow Routes into Effect

The City of Sedalia has declared a Snow Emergency, and Emergency Snow Routes are in effect. This is according to a press release and a Facebook post on the City of Sedalia Missouri Facebook page. You can see the cities Emergency Snow Routes on a map posted there as well. The City of Sedalia says:

Emergency Snow Routes help improve traffic flow after a snowstorm or significant icing by declaring a parking ban along the designated routes to expedite snow or ice clearing. Parking is prohibited along Emergency Snow Routes once the snow emergency occurs. During recent Emergency Snow Events, plowing has been impeded by cars continuing to be parked along the snow emergency routes. Failure to remove cars during a snow emergency can result in the cars being towed at the owner's expense. The Street crews work to keep these designated streets as clear as possible to allow for emergency vehicle use.

The City of Warrensburg has also implemented Phase 1 of their Snow Emergency Ordinance and parking is prohibited on Snow Emergency Routes from 6:00 AM CST Thursday, March 10 - 10:00 AM CST Friday, March, 11. Additionally, the City asks that you keep your vehicles out of cul-de-sacs as well. This is according to the City of Warrensburg Government Facebook page.

The National Weather Service has Johnson County, including Knob Noster and Warrensburg, under a Winter Storm Warning from 9:00 PM CST Wednesday, March 9, through 6:00 AM CST Friday, March 11.
