Cracked.com has a list of the most dangerous days of the year, according to statistics.  Here are the top four, because I'm all about safety.

#1.)  JULY 1ST.  Actually, if you have to go to the emergency room, this entire month is dangerous.  Every July 1st, hospitals across the country take on their newest batch of interns.

And according to a Harvard study, it results in an additional 1,500 to 3,000 deaths every July.  (With that said, if your appendix is about to burst, go to the hospital.  Don't wait until August.)

#2.)  THE SECOND MONDAY IN MARCH.  The first Sunday in March is daylight savings time.  But Monday is the first workday.  And since everyone's sleep-deprived, the number of accidents goes way up.  You're also more likely to have a work-related accident.  And on the first three workdays after the time change, the number of serious heart attacks goes up by six to ten percent.

#3.)  NEW YEAR'S EVE.  Drunk driving is the biggest killer on New Year's Eve.  But drunk walking is deadly too.  More people die while walking down the street on December 31st than any other day of the year.

#4.)  CHRISTMAS DAY.  You've probably heard that suicide rates spike around the holidays.  But that's actually just a myth. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, suicide rates go down during the winter months, and they're highest in SPRING. And if you're talking about days of the week, Wednesday is the deadliest day.  Almost 25% of suicides happen on a Wednesday.

But between 1973 and 2001, 53 million "natural deaths" occurred on Christmas Day, which is more than any other day of the year. The reasons include:  Increased stress, more physical activity, fattier foods, and . . . increased use of fireplaces.  It's because the fumes can cause cardiovascular problems.  Plus, there aren't as many doctors and nurses on duty.

So, stay safe out there this New Year's week....days?

Safely yours,

Behka
