Tonight at the Celebration Center, there will be a big auction to benefit Child Safe. Various people around town, known in the wild as "celebrities" are donating different desserts to be auctioned off to raise money.  For some reason, they asked me to contribute one.  I don't know why, but sure, if it'll help kids, why not.

They asked me ages ago, and I really kind of fretted about it for some time.  I'm not a natural cook, as you might know.  But I watch a lot of Food Network, and maybe some of it got into my brain by osmosis or something.  I mean, you watch enough people bake cakes and cupcakes over time you start to get the hang of it, right?

But what would I make? I can't just fake it and buy some cookies or something. I have to actually MAKE something.  I didn't really have any inspiration for what I was going to make. It just.. had to be sweet?  Cupcakes?  Nah.  That's too easy.  Cookies?  Also too easy.  I'm not just gonna buy a roll of chocolate chip cookie dough and call it a win.  So I thought about it long and hard and then finally, something came to me out of nowhere.

I was in the grocery store with Husbando, and we were in the produce section.  There they were, staring me in the face - Meyer Lemons!  I've seen these on Chopped.  They're sweeter than normal lemons, and I bet there are a ton of things I can do with these things.

One of Laney's favorite desserts is a Lemon Tart.  So, she inspired my first dessert.

I was going to take photos of the process of baking, aka "The Mess I Made" but I forgot until after all was said and done.  Husbando tried them, and said they were "pretty good" so maybe someone will buy them.  But I still had like, five lemons left over. I should make a second dessert!

Wala!  Meyer Lemon Cheesecake!  I even melted some white chocolate and put it on the top as a kind of... top.  With zest!  So fancy! Well, I hope it's acceptable.  I mean, it's for a good cause, after all.  Someone will have pity on me and buy the thing.  You can go and try for yourself at the Celebration Center tonight, with chili at 5:30 and the auction starting at 6:30.  I won't be there, because I'm a baby that goes to bed early, but I hope you go and bid like crazy.  And hey, maybe you'll want my dessert.

Don't sue me, though, if they're bad.  I don't think my little heart can take it.

Bakingly yours,
Behka
