The Sedalia Police Department's Crime Resolution Unit busted an auto parts thief and also got some drugs off the street in July while focusing on high crime areas in the 1200 block of South Limit and the 3400 and 3500 blocks of Broadway Boulevard.

As a result of the Crime Resolution Unit's focus on these areas, two major cases were developed.

The first, involving the auto parts thief came about after observation of auto parts being unloaded into a hotel room in the 1200 block of South Limit. A vehicle stop followed and the driver was arrested for an unrelated offense. Police found stolen property in the vehicle, which lead police to obtain a search warrant for the hotel room. Police recovered drugs and stolen catalytic converters during the room search. And found the subject had an outstanding warrant.

The second case stemmed from someone seeing an alleged drug deal. A coordinated stop of both vehicles resulted in arrests for warrants and possession of marijuana and oxycodone pills. Information gathered during the vehicle stop resulted in the consent search of a hotel room in the 3400 block of West Broadway. The search netted another arrest for Oxycodone possession and outstanding warrants.

In addition to these major cases, the Crime Resolution Unit conducted 20 vehicle stops and three subject searches. Criminal charges stemming from the unit's July operation include nine charges related to warrants, 18 charges related to drug possession/delivery/trafficking, two charges for driving while suspended/revoked, as well as charges for theft of automobile parts, resisting arrest, and unlawful transaction with child.

In a Facebook post, the Sedalia Police Department says they are, "sincerely grateful to the community for their concern and support with these issues. We will continue to aggressively work with the public and in these high crime areas to help solve community, crime-related problems. "
