I Guess I’ve Always Been A Nintendo Person After All
Greetings, everybody out there in blogland. Wait, no, Article land. I try to keep up with the latest and greatest in interesting entertainment. And if I can't do that, I'll just blab about something!
Today, it's going to be video games. It's quite amusing to see just how into these things some people can get. Now for me, I was always and still am a Nintendo person. When I was in fourth grade, I wanted a Nintendo so bad I could taste it. I begged and begged and begged, and my folks finally caved in when I was a fifth grader. We had Mario/Duck Hunt, Qbert, and the Legend of Zelda II.
If I look back on it, that's the only gaming console I've ever owned. I've had the original 8 bit since about 1988 (until it got nicked!), the Nintendo 64, and now I've got a Wii and a Wii U. When I was a kid, every day I'd spend at least an hour on the gaming console. I played all the Mario games, Zelda, and eventually got Dragon Warrior, and even a video game where the Simpsons fought against space aliens.
In later years the games got much much cheaper, and I ended up buying a lot of cheap used games at thrift stores. I ruled at Tetris (still do, thank you very much), and grabbed everything I could find that looked moderately interesting. I even got a game that was a tie in to 7-up. In college, my friends and I would play those more often than the newer games on the Dreamcast or Playstation. After all, if you have to pick between Crazy Taxi or Paperboy.... you're gonna pick Paperboy every time.
These days on my Wii U console I pretty much only play Rock Band. In particular I play The Beatles Rock Band, because I secretly want to be Ringo. Well. It's not a secret now, is it.
One other thing I do on the Wii is play a dance game called The Michael Jackson Experience. My father got it for me and the girls and I like it. It's amazing, but hard!
These kids actually do it better than I do, to be honest. But it's crazy fun, I will say that. I've known people who play all sorts of violent shoot 'em up games, but I could never get into those. In fact, the fifteen years or so in between when I got the 64 for Christmas, I didn't play any games until I got the Wii. I told myself I was gonna get one so I could do the Wii Fit. And I have one. But I don't do it as much as I should.
Do you play video games? Did you as a kid? Do your kids play games? Do you play on a console or on the computer? Tell me all about it!
Gamingly yours,
Behka
