Community Blood Center is experiencing an emergency blood shortage and they need our help to make sure hospitals like Bothwell Regional Health Center and Western Missouri Medical Center have blood available when their patients need it. You can help by donating blood at the First Christian Church in Sedalia Monday October 12 and Tuesday October 13.

Every four minutes someone at a hospital in a community that Community Blood Center serves needs a blood transfusion. In fact Community Blood Center needs to collect 580 pints of blood every day and 140,000 pints annually to meet the needs of local hospitals.

If you'd like to donate blood you can do so at First Christian Church, 200 South Limit, between the hours of 10:00AM - 6:00PM CDT, because of COVID-19 considerations, appointments are encouraged. If you'd like to schedule a time to donate blood you can register here to donate on Monday October 12, or here to donate on Tuesday October 13.

Healthy people 17 and older who weigh at least 110 pounds are eligible to donate. 16 year olds' may donate with parental position. There are a few reasons why you may not be eligible to donate right now:

  • Cold, sore throat, respiratory infection, flu.
  • Travel to part of the world where malaria is an issue.
  •  COVID-19 infection.

Or are currently on self quarantine restrictions.

Community Blood Centers says, "There is no data or evidence that this coronavirus can be transmitted by blood transfusion. In fact, there have been no reported cases of transfusion-transmission for any respiratory virus, including this coronavirus."
