If you have ever taken a few minutes to star gaze at night, it can be a pretty amazing thing.  Sometimes you see some things that just don't happen too often.  Well this Thursday night or Friday morning we will have a Lunar Eclipse.  Or in this case a "Near Total" partial Lunar Eclipse.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are exactly or very closely aligned with Earth between the other two, and only on the night of a full moon.  We are going to be pretty close to that.

To explain everything, click HERE for an article and video from my friend Kenton Gewecke from KOMU 8 in Columbia.  He goes into more detail than I can describe.  But what I can say is that what will be happening this Thursday night and into Friday morning has not happened since the 1400's.  The time it will take will allow you to perhaps see some of this amazing event, depending on your work schedule.  :)  And if you get a clear view of the sky.

So if any of you have a telescope, or powerful binoculars, you might want to see if you can get a good look.  And if you miss it, you will only have to wait until Nov of 2039 for the next one.  If you get a good view, please take some pictures.  They don't happen too often.  And bundle up, it will be cold that night.  Click HERE for another video from KRCG 13.
