Kids of all ages who love to get dressed up for Halloween have an opportunity to show off their costumes in the Sedalia Parks & Recreation Virtual Halloween Costume Contest.

Witches, Pirates, Moon People, Super Heroes and more. I'm sure the costumes will run the gamut. And there will be prizes for the following categories: cutest, scariest and most original

So what do you need to know? If you want to compete in the Virtual Halloween Costume Contest you need to send a photo of you in your costume, along with what age division you need to be placed in to slynde@sedaliaparks.com by Thursday October 29. One entry per person. Here are the age categories for the competition:

  • Up to 24 months.
  • 2-3 years old.
  • 4-6 years old.
  • 7-9 years old.
  • 10-12 years old.
  • 12-16 years old.
  • 17* years old.
  • Family entries.

If you're looking for some inspiration when it comes to your costume all you need to do is hit the web for a variety of resources. There's Good Housekeeping's list of "56 Easy Homemade Halloween Costumes for Adults, Kids, and Everyone in Between."  The website creatingreallyawesomefunthings.com has a list of 39 do it yourself adult Halloween costumes. And Marie Claire is talking about the trends for this year's Halloween costumes that will be everywhere.

That's just scratching the surface. There's lots of Pinterest boards devoted to the subject. Then there's the stores that want to sell you a Halloween costume. And lots of pictures. So with a little imagination and an assist from the world wide web you should be able to come up with a cool idea. The execution, well I'll leave that up to you. My Mom just bought me the plastic Batman costume with the mask you couldn't see or breathe out of.
