Wynnona and her band The Big Noise are performing a free show at Independence's SantaCaliGon Days on Friday August 30.

SantaCaliGon Days celebrates the origin of the Santa Fe, California and Oregon trails during our country's great western expnansion in the 1800's. These days it's four days of great family fun on the historic Independence Square.

The festival prides itself on being free. That means no ticket is necessary to enjoy the festival on the square, or the entertainment provided on both the main and community stages. Festival organiser Lois McDonald told KMBC “We’re ecstatic to offer Wynonna at this year’s festival and can’t wait to hear her band perform!”

Wynonna first rose to fame in the 1980's alongside her mother Naomi in the country music duo The Judds. The 90's saw Wynonna begin a successful solo career that spawned several number one hits including "No One Else On Earth", "Only Love" and "To Be Loved By You".

If you're looking for one last quick family road trip or gettaway weekend, SantaCaliGon Days in Independence might just be the answer. In addition to the music, and there's music every night, the festival has a carnival, a mainstreet 1849 experience and over 400 arts, craft, food and commercial vendors.

Additionally, the Royals are home playing the Orioles that weekend. Kidfest is happening at Union Station's Science City. Kansas City Irish Fest is happening at the Crown Center and the Kansas City Renaissance Festival is going on. More info on these events can be found on visitkc.com. So really, you could see Wynonna on Friday Night and then pick a couple of other things to do in the city that weekend.
