An Independence man died in a fiery crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Jackson County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 2011 Kia Sorento, driven by 57-year-old Patrick V. Dye of Independence, was on northbound I-470 at Woods Chapel around 3 p.m., when the vehicle ran off the right side of the highway, struck a bridge support and became engulfed in flames.

Dye was taken to Centerpoint Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:36 p.m., by Dr. Stephanie Thom.

Lee's Summit Police assisted the three Troopers on scene.
