If you've got talent, show it off. Sedalia Parks & Recreation is now accepting videos for their virtual talent show which will debut on the Parks &Rec Facebook page on Friday January 22.

I'll admit it. I've always had a little bit of that let's get a stage and put on a show in me. It goes all the way back to when my Aunt Grace would have a party with her teacher friends when I was a little kid. Then performing in skits or programs in grade school. Then doing theater and playing with my garage band in high school.

There's something fun about being part of a show. The pre-performance butterflies, mixed with a little bit of giddiness. The few minutes of being in the spotlight. And the rush, release and relief of having actually performed. I think it's made all the better when it's in an old school auditorium with that auditorium smell.

Sadly, a lot of that isn't possible with COVID-19 this year. But that doesn't mean Sedalia Parks & Rec isn't going to try and put on a show. They're just doing it virtually.

If you want to be part of Sedalia Parks & Recreation's virtual talent show here's what you need to do:

  • Submit a video no longer than a 1:30 seconds showcasing your talent in one of eight categories: art, comedy, theatre/skits, dance, magic, music, singing or other.
  • Include your name, age, category you're submitting and any other info you'd like with your entry. Email it to slynde@sedaliaparks.com or submit your entry through Sedalia Parks Facebook Messenger.
  • Entries are due by 5:00PM CST on Friday January 15.

The contest is open to all ages and is free to enter. Good luck.
