Sedalia Police Reports for February 12, 2024

On February 10 at 8:21 p.m, Sedalia Police conducted a warrant check in the 2500 block of Southwest Blvd. Officers made contact with the subject, and ran his information through Joint Communications. It was discovered that 58-year-old William Paul Carter of the address, was wanted on a Pettis County warrant with a bond amount of $1500 cash or surety. Carter was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was booked on his warrant.

On Sunday at 3:33 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to the 500 block of E. 4th for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers met with a subject yelling outside, causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. The subject was highly intoxicated and was advised multiple times to stop yelling, which he refused to do. 41-year-old Joseph Elmer Fore of the 500 block of E. 4th, was then arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 12-hour hold for safekeeping, pending the filing of state charges for peace disturbance.

On Sunday just after midnight, Sedalia Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a lane violation, and the vehicle refused to stop, and a pursuit began. Shortly thereafter, the driver left the roadway and drove into a drainage ditch near 15th and Wagner. 55-year-old Lomond Keith Johnson of Sedalia was then removed from the vehicle and arrested. Johnson provided a breath sample to police that showed his blood alcohol content to be above .08. Johnson was then transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold. He now faces charges of DWI aggravated offender, resisting arrest and driving while suspended.

On Friday, Sedalia Police responded to the 1200 block of Deseret Drive for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers determined that the suspect had assaulted the victim after inflicting harm upon himself. The suspect was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center for treatment of his injuries. A request for the charge of 4th-degree domestic assault was submitted to the prosecutor.

On Friday night, Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by an individual known to have a revoked driving status. A stop was made at Broadway and State Fair Blvd. Contact was made with the driver and he was arrested, and transported to the Pettis County Jail. 49-year-old Stephen Wayne Hassler of Sedalia now faces a charge of driving while revoked.

On Sunday night, Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle failing to maintain its lane in the 2500 block of West Broadway. It was discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver's license and no proof of insurance. 37-year-old Carmen Saray Funez Bustillo of Sedalia was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department for fingerprinting, then released on summons for Municipal Court.

On Friday, Sedalia Police responded to the 1800 block of South Barret for a domestic assault. Officers spoke with the reporting party, who said that she was assaulted by her boyfriend. Offers then made contact with the boyfriend and arrested him for 3rd-degree domestic assault. 26-year-old James F. Bailey was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where he was placed on a 24-hour hold.

On Friday around 6 p.m., Sedalia Police took a report in the lobby reference found property. A subject found an ID lying in the intersection at 14th and Barrett. Officers were unable to find any contact info on the card, according to the report. The card was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

On Friday night, Sedalia Police conducted a traffic stop near Broadway and Hancock. The driver, 35-year-old Antonio Leonel Contreras of Sedalia, was found to have no valid driver's license. Contreras was fingerprinted and released with a court summons.

On Jan. 31 just after 11 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 400 block of West Morgan. The victim said her vehicle had been struck and the other party left the area.

On Friday a 11:35 a.m., Sedalia Police responded to 1410 South Harrison for a hit-and-run accident. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim, who said he was driving northbound on Sneed near 20th and was sideswiped by another vehicle. The striking vehicle fled the scene without providing any information. The suspect had not yet been identified at the time of the report.
