A 28-year-old Sedalia man armed with a knife was shot and killed by Sedalia Police after he fought with and injured two officers Saturday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, who is handling the investigation, identified the man as James Kreisel, 28, of Sedalia.  Kreisel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting occurred Saturday night around 7:27 p.m., when officers responded to the 1000 block of State Fair Boulevard to investigate a disturbance.

Upon arrival, officers were met by Kreisel, who they say was armed with a knife.

Two officers and Kreisel then began fighting.  The officers were injured and Kreisel was then fatally shot.

According to the patrol, both SPD officers were treated and released from Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Sedalia Police Interim Chief David Woolery requested that the MSHP investigate the shooting.
