To mark the centennial of Smith-Cotton High School, the S-C band, orchestra and vocal music departments will perform a 100th Year Community Concert on Dec. 12 in the auditorium at Smith-Cotton Junior High, which was the original Smith-Cotton High.

There will be two performances, one at 6 pm and one at 7:30 pm. The 6 pm performance will be live streamed on the district’s YouTube channel. Smith-Cotton Director of Bands Andrew Fischer said, “This will be a very unique event with the band, choir, and orchestra all performing together in a combined choral symphony. Nearly 200 of our high school musicians will be on stage at the SCJH auditorium to celebrate its 100th year of service.”
The combined groups will perform a mix of music including some traditional Smith Cotton songs such as the Alma Mater, as well as a few holiday-themed pieces, and a medley of well-known Irving Berlin tunes.
Fischer said, “In addition, we have commissioned a brand-new piece of music that is being written specifically for this event. A local composer, Matthew Manning, is putting the final touches on the piece now.”

Both concerts will be open to the public and no ticket or RSVP is required. The two concerts will be identical, so there is no need to attend both.

Smith-Cotton High School Principal Wade Norton said, “This concert combines three of our strongest pieces in our fine arts department. We are excited to celebrate our 100th year as we also celebrate the holiday season. This concert is an open invitation to our community to come ring in the holiday and celebrate with Smith-Cotton in the original location at 312 East Broadway.”
