A major street reclamation and resurfacing project is scheduled to begin on Winchester
Drive in Sedalia on Monday, April 22.

The City of Sedalia says the project will include all of Winchester Drive within the city limits from near the intersection with U.S. Highway 50 to near the roundabout at State Highway “Y”.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and avoid the area to assist in keeping congestion to a minimum so the roadway improvements can be made safely.

The City says beginning April 22 and continuing through May 10, motorists traveling along Winchester Dr. between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. will encounter periods where flagmen are present, limiting traffic to a single lane or temporarily closing the roadway, to allow for movement of work crews using heavy equipment.

Work crews will be milling along the curb line to prepare the roadway for resurfacing and repairing base failures. After 5 p.m. when work crews are not present, drivers should anticipate the roadway surface next to the curb will be “roughened and uneven” and some areas due to their deteriorated condition may be signed, barricaded, barreled and/or coned off to prevent vehicles from encountering drop-offs or other uneven roadway surface conditions.

On Monday, May 13 and continuing through May 17, the City says plans are to CLOSE the southern section of Winchester Drive from the roundabout to W. 10th Street between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. for removal of the current roadway surface.

Motorists planning to travel in the area will need to find an alternate route as the road will be closed. After 5 p.m., when work crews are not present, the City says drivers will encounter drop-offs and uneven roadway surface conditions and should reduce speed in the work zone to accommodate for conditions, as well.

Similarly, on Monday, May 20 and continuing through May 24, plans are to restrict traffic on the northern section of Winchester Dr. from W. 10th Street. to near the intersection with U.S. Highway 50 to one lane of traffic between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., for removal of the current roadway surface.

Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed in all work zones to accommodate for the conditions.

On Monday, May 28 and continuing through June 6, between the hours of
7 a.m. and 5 p.m., the City says work crews will complete the reclamation process on the roadway.

From June 6 until June 24, work crews will not be present in the area while the roadway surface cures prior to asphalt being applied. The City says motorists will be able to drive on the roadway during this period.

Asphalting of the roadway is then scheduled to begin on June 24.

A Public Service Announcement will be released prior to the start of the asphalt portion of the project detailing the specific days sections of Winchester Drive will be closed or have lane restrictions.

The project is anticipated to be complete by July 1.

The City noted that the resurfacing project is weather and equipment dependent and may be delayed due to rain or equipment breakdowns.
