Own A Piece of Nineties Kid Field Trip History In Versailles

I don't know about you guys, but field trips were the best part of school when I was a young whippersnapper.And to be honest, it wasn't just because you got out of school.  Sure, getting out, moving, and being somewhere anywhere than the same classroom you were yesterday were always good.  But I remember so many times just getting on the bus and heading off for what I was sure was going to be an ADVENTURE.

Now when I got older (think High School), yes, I did take every opportunity to go on a field trip to get out of classes.  Because, you know, I was a teenager.  But when I was little, it was more about the actual trip itself.  It wasn't so much even about who you sat next to on the ride what lunch your Mom packed for you or how much your Dad gave you for the gift shop.   It was about going out of town without your parents and seeing something you weren't even sure they had gotten to experience.

One of the most memorable field trips for me had to have been in maybe fourth or fifth grade.  We all got on a bus and we went down to Versailles to see Jacob's Cave.  Now I don't remember much of the trip or the history (because, you know, I had to make room for Beatles trivia).  But I do remember one moment.

We were all in a room somewhere deep in Jacob's Cave.  The guide had told us about how hard it had been to find the entrance to the cave, and all the history beforehand.  Then, they stopped us.  Told us to stand absolutely still... and turned out all the lights.  It was the first time I had experienced total darkness.  It was so cool, yet so scary!

And now, it looks like the owner's of Jacob's Cave are ready to let go and move on.  I don't know for sure, but I imagine it's probably time for someone to retire.  And now you can own not just the cave, but the buildings, land, and some dwellings around it.  If you have about four million dollars, that is.  BUT, maybe you have investors or a nest egg and want to get into that tourism life!  Let's take a look inside the cave.
