I admit it doesn't take much to impress me. But impress me, this did! No, I know I'm not Yoda, but still.  If you look at the top of the page here, right underneath the picture, you'll see a little sound icon.

Just this week, the sites have started a feature where an automated voice will read the posts out  loud to you.  I personally think this is... so cool.  I won't know how the voice reads my opinion posts, but I can see how this would be so convenient for so many people.

If you have a young person who isn't a reader yet, you can let them listen to posts about community events happening.  If you have someone in your life who is working on English as a second language, this would totally help them with some aspects of pronunciation.  And for people who can't see as well or at all, this is a huge upgrade.  Now people who need "cheaters" to read articles don't have to mess with their computer browser to make the words bigger, now they can just click the icon and have the posts read to them!  Yeah, you'll have to listen to an ad real quick, but it's pretty darn cool. And for people who can't see at all, it's bringing the sites to life in a new way!  I can only imagine how hard it must be for someone who depends on Braille to try to access the internet.  Now with a little help, they can keep up with what they want here in town!

And really, if you're like me and you like podcasts, it's almost like a local podcast brought to you right here.  I mean, at least it is to me.  I like it! Sure, the automated voice isn't perfect.  It messes up a bit on contractions.  But for the most part, it's pretty right on!

So anyway, if you think you can use it or you want to try it, go ahead! Let me know what you think (although I'm not tech savvy enough to be able to tell you how it works or how to troubleshoot it, you can still ask).

Podcastingly yours,
Behka
