One Winning Powerball Jackpot Ticket Sold in Missouri
UPDATE: A Powerball ticket sold in Dearborn matched all six Powerball numbers drawn last night to win half of the $587.5 million jackpot. At $293.7 million, this is the largest jackpot prize ever won in Missouri and the second-largest Powerball jackpot awarded nationwide. The ticket was sold at Trex Mart, 17605 Highway Z, in Dearborn. The winning numbers were: 5, 16, 22, 23, 29, and the Powerball number was 6.
“If you buy Powerball tickets at this location, please find them and check them closely,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “If you find you’re holding the winning ticket, be sure you sign the back and put it in a safe place until you can take it to a Missouri Lottery office. You will also want to get some legal and financial advice before you claim.”
Missouri Lottery offices are located in Kansas City, Jefferson City, St. Louis and Springfield. Maps to each office can be found on the “Contact Us” page of the Lottery’s website at MOLottery.com.
The Missouri winner has 180 days to claim this prize, which in this case is May 27, 2013. The winner can select to get the jackpot prize in 30 payments over 29 years (annuity) or in one lump-sum payment worth approximately $192.3 million before taxes. If no choice is made in 60 days, the jackpot is automatically paid in 30 payments.
Trex Mart will also receive a bonus check for $50,000 for selling the winning ticket. “The retailer and winner are not the only ones to benefit from this record jackpot,” said Reardon. “Public education benefits greatly. Missouri Powerball sales for this jackpot run, which started Oct. 3, were more than $28.8 million, which means more than $10.7 million of those sales will benefit public education.”
In addition to the jackpot winner from last night’s drawing, Missouri players won more than $3 million in other prizes, including two tickets that were worth $1 million each and eight tickets worth $10,000.

Two tickets – one in Missouri and one in Arizona – matched all six numbers drawn in last night’s record Powerball drawing to share the $587.5 million jackpot. The Missouri ticket was sold in the Lottery’s Kansas City region, and the name of the actual store will be released later this morning.
“It is so exciting to sell one of these Powerball tickets,” said May Scheve Reardon, executive director of the Missouri Lottery. “In addition, we sold two tickets that matched all five white balls, which means they each win $1 million. Three millionaires in one night is a wonderful night!”
The $1 million winning tickets were sold at Casey’s General Store, 4800 S. Rangeline in Joplin and Sunfresh, 2415 N.E. Vivion Road in Kansas City.
Reardon noted that Missouri has had the second most Powerball jackpot winners, behind Indiana.
“With last night’s jackpot winner, we are up to 27,” said Reardon.
If you find you hold the winning ticket, be sure to sign the back, put it in a safe place and seek legal and financial advice.
“We want winners to take their time and think through this clearly,” Reardon said. “We don’t want them to feel rushed.”
