LaMonte Rallies Around Local Police Officer
Cliff Knickmeyer is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and currently a LaMonte police officer. During a pursuit of a suspect, he noticed something wrong with his toe. He assumed that it was injured in the chase. When it didn't heal for a week, he visited his physician and found out blood clots in his leg were to blame and he would require surgery.
Officer Knickmeyer has been on medical leave for seven weeks and has eight weeks to go without drawing a paycheck. Jeremy Joy and others have organized a fundraiser to help Cliff pay his medical expenses and his bills until he can return to work.
Today (September 28) from noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday (September 29) starting at 7 a.m., there will be a silent auction with items donated from several area businesses at the LaMonte community bank. A $5 per plate meal will be available as well. You will have your choice of pulled pork, chicken, hot dogs, a hamburger, chips and a drink.
All funds collected will go directly to Cliff for his recovery.
Organizers are planning on setting up a fund at a local bank as well. That information will be posted here as soon as it comes in.
