There are serious things happening in this world right now. This isn't one of them. But, it is a new addition to my Missouri "to-do list" as it's a dessert that gives new meaning to the phrase "over-the-top".

Thank you, Love Food, for shining the spotlight on this very underrated Missouri place that happens to create what they refer to as the "most extravagant and over-the-top dessert" in Missouri.

What is this that my eyes are looking at and my mouth is drooling over? It's the mile-high apple pie from the Blue Owl in Kimmswick, Missouri.

This isn't the pie that just got the Love Food honor though. It's another cousin of the mile-high apple pie known as the Apple Pecan Levee High Pie.

This pie has an interesting history that is connected to the infamous great flood of 1993. It was created that year and Love Food adds the tasty backstory:

After the pie is baked, the whole thing is covered in a buttery caramel and crumbled pecans to resemble the sand and gravel of the life-saving levees, after which the pie is named.

Brilliant. The fact that it doesn't come from a big chain or store, but a small mom and pop bakery in Missouri makes it even better. Well done. Now, where did I put my fork?
