I Don’t Know Why Spam Email Even Tries Anymore
I have a few email addresses, like a lot of us out there. I think I have two personal ones, and two I use for work.
Every day, I am innundated with tons and tons of spam. I just deleted maybe 45 spam messages from an account I only use for online shopping. My regular correspondence email has 16 in it's spam folder right now. At work, my main email address gets maybe forty or fifty a day. I don't understand! It's almost like it's custom made just to annoy me.
Now, here's the thing. Just maybe.... fifteen years ago, many of us didn't have email addresses. We were just getting on or getting used to the idea of The Internet. Back then, I could see how a spammer could possibly make some decent money or get leads or whatever.
But nowadays? Really? Does anyone even open these things? They can't possibly think that anyone is going to open the email that says something unintelligible about "englargement" or whatever. But I guess somehow, someway, it must work. Somebody must be going into their emails, saying, "Wow! Finally, someone understands MY needs!" and clicking away.
I just have no idea who that would be. My dad is a middle aged guy, and he's suspicious of Everything email or internet. And I read in some of my news that a majority of Seniors even are at least a bit web savvy. So it's not age, that's not a factor. Is it naivete? Is it wishful thinking? Is it... just nothing? Do they get paid by the email they send out or something, and it doesn't matter if someone actually opens it or clicks the link?
I don't know. I do know this: if you don't know who the person is that is emailing you....... it's very unlikely you will. That person is probably not your friend.
Spammily yours,
Behka
