Hotels Are Going to the Dogs: Pets Welcome at More Hotels in 2022

If you like to travel with your pets, it just got a little easier to take your vacation. More hotel brands will be welcoming pets along with their humans for a stay. Whether or not you're a pet person determines whether or not that's a good thing.

According to Daily Journal Online, all Homewood Suites properties became pet friendly on January 1. And in April pets will be welcome at Hampton Inn, Tru, Hilton Garden Inn, and Embassy Suites.

I like the fact that Hampton Inn is becoming pet-friendly because that's usually my first choice when I have to book a hotel. And frankly, when we were traveling cross country for a job about ten years ago I couldn't stay at Hampton because I had our dog Georgia with us.

When I came to Sedalia, I was lucky the Best Western State Fair Inn was pet-friendly. Because one of my conditions on coming here was pet-friendly accommodations because I'm the primary caregiver for our dog and he needed to come with me.

That said, I can't say I'm a big fan of taking my dog on vacation. I do a lot for my dog every day. I walk him, I feed him, I play with him, I take him to the vet when he needs it. There have been times I've had to re-arrange my schedule to take care of him. And don't get me wrong, I'm ok with that.

But when I go on vacation I don't want to have to worry about my dog. I don't want to have to walk him. Or worry about him barking and disturbing other guests. Or worry about an accident. Frankly, one of the things I like about my vacations are not having to worry about the dog. But that's just me.

I'm sure some guests will love the pet-friendly atmosphere of some of these hotels. They'll smile when they see a guest walking their dog. Or pass a dog and his or her owner in the hallway and it'll make them feel good.

Then I'm sure there are those folks who will walk into a room where housekeeping didn't get all the stray dog hair and it'll bug 'em. Or the person whose allergic to cats, that winds up in a room whose previous guests had brought their cat with them and winds up with a full-blown allergy attack.

There is also one more thing to know about these pet-friendly hotels too, which the Daily Journal Online mentioned. While the national brands are pet-friendly. The rules regarding pets and how the pet policy is implemented are left up to the individual hotels. So, you'll want to contact the specific hotels you want to stay at during your trip to learn about any restrictions on size or breed, and the pet fee you'll pay to bring your dog.
