There were several reports of funnel clouds in the Kansas City Metro area yesterday afternoon.  The National Weather Service issued a statement via Twitter on why there were no warnings or watches issued with these sightings yesterday afternoon.

We have received several sightings from the public of funnel clouds near Odessa since 1:30 p.m (Aug. 29). These funnel clouds are occurring along a very weak cold front that lies from near Kirsksville through Pleasant Hill.

Any additional funnel clouds which occur this afternoon within this corridor will be very small and extremely unlikely to reach the ground and cause any damage due to a stable layer of air that lies just above the ground.

The storms for the most part stood elevated, but did cause several scares across Missouri and has moved into the Illinois area.
