First off you have to remember, it is winter. So to have a forecast with snow ice, drizzle and freezing rain shouldn't really come as a shock. But, of course, every year when the winteresque forecasts reappear we act like we're amazed that we would see such weather!

Now that we have the "I can't believe we would get this kind of weather" emotions out of our system, let's settle in with what the weather prognosticators are saying we could see New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

It all starts later Thursday evening. According to the National Weather Service:

Thursday Night-A chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet before midnight, then freezing rain between midnight and 3am, then rain or freezing rain after 3am. Low around 29. East northeast wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.3 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

So it's probably appropriate that we end 2020 with crappy weather. Now the part I don't like is that we start 2021 with the same stuff. On New Year's Day there's still some yucky stuff in the forecast.

The National Weather Service goes on to say that Friday's forecast includes includes rain and/or freezing rain and some snow. If we get any amount of snow it should be less than half an inch accumulation.

The good news? The Chiefs play their last regular season game game at Arrowhead Sunday and the forecast is for partly sunny skies and 40 degrees.
