The Warrensburg City Council agreed to help out financially with a proposed “inclusive playground” to be built at Cave Hollow Park.

On Monday night, the Council heard a presentation from Scott Holmberg, representing the Johnson County Board of Services and RISE.  (RISE provides services for people with disabilities including residential settings, day programs, employment assistance, managed care, and home and community based services.)

In his funding request, Holmberg noted that $177,000 was needed in order to qualify for matching grant funds for the $323,000 playground project. The Council, after a few minutes of discussion, agreed to make a $5,000 donation, plus $35,000 in funds to match what a community fund drive raises (up to a total of $40,000 overall from the City).

Council members indicated they would like to hear an update from Holmberg at its next meeting.

The construction period is expected to take place from July through September.

A food truck festival, scheduled for Tuesday, April 17 in Warrensburg, will include tip jars that will benefit the inclusive playground project.
