Each year the Centennial Park Pool closes just before the Missouri State Fair, usually because the Missouri State Fair is starting up and demand for the two pools goes down as people flock to the Fairgrounds.  The other rational is some of the lifeguards are college students and they begin their trek back to college.

In the last few years, a tradition has started up where on the last day before the pools are drained, they allow dogs to come out and swim.  The doggie dive will occur at Centennial Park Pool today (August 7) starting at 6 p.m. and will last until 7:30 p.m.

The dogs must follow the owner’s rules and be accompanied by an adult.  Owners are responsible for cleaning up after any mess the dog may make.  One dog and the whole family can get in for just $3.

Although the Centennial Park pool will close after the doggie dive, the Liberty Park Pool will remain open through Tuesday, September 4 and will have their doggie dive on that evening.

I have had the chance to go to the doggie dive last year and my Dachshund loved it.  He seemed to enjoy sitting on a perch and watching the other bigger dogs take their turn in the water.  All the dogs seemed to be friendly towards each other and even played.  Some of the good fun was watching the dogs go down the slide, or take a running start and dive towards their toys in the deep end.  This year our family plans to bring our new dog, Pippa, to Centennial and see how she does.
