The third annual Sedalia-Pettis County United Way Campaign Kickoff was held at Convention Hall in Liberty Park on Thursday, August 30 at noon.  For the last three years, United Way has had celebrity chefs cook for the crowd to show how people can come together for the betterment of the community.

Labor Day weekend is upon us, a holiday that many mark as the end of summer.  I have done many different things for Labor Day weekend in the past, from traveling to the Lake of the Ozarks, to Kansas City, Columbia and even just around town.

Hundreds of cyclists turned out for the Sedalia Historic District Criterium on Saturday, August 25.  The start of the races began under downpour circumstances, but most of the rain stopped during the first race of the day.   “The rain may take away from the spectators, but the riders are pretty oblivious to the rain and they are always ready for this,” said race promoter and owner of Pro-Velo Cycl

Rain fell across West Central Missouri last weekend, and some have thought with the rain there would be no more burn ban.  However, the rain that fell was not enough to drop the burn ban in Pettis County according Mike Harding of the Pettis County Fire Department.

92.3 BOB-FM is an affiliate of the Kansas City Chiefs, and each year we get invited to Kansas Cit Chiefs Radio Affiliates Day, which usually happens in pre-season.  Normally I don’t get the chance to go because I’m at the Missouri State Fair or covering high school football, but this year with Al McCurdy bringing us Smith-Cotton Football, I finally got the chance to go.

Last week we reported that the Mid-Missouri Outlaws would be more than likely joining the Champions Professional Football League. Yesterday (August 22), Outlaws co-owner Ethan Henson held a press conference at the Celebration Center formally announcing that they would join the league as one of the founding teams.

In the last two weeks, U.S. Representative and Republican U.S. Senator Candidate Todd Akin has made several statements that have been scrutinized.  Recently, Todd Atkins drew controversy nationwide when he said in a television interview that it is “really rare” that victims of “legitimate rape” get pregnant.

Today is day 11 of the Missouri State Fair, and is the final day too!  Today is Fair Finale/Half Price Day where you can get in for $4 adult admission all day and $1 for kids ages 6-12.  It’s also Celebrate Law Enforcement Day where it is free gate admission for Municipal/County/State Law Enforcement with appropriate I.D. and $1 gate admission for immediate family members.

Day 10 of the Missouri State Fair is here, and it’s the final weekend too!  Today is Youth in Agriculture Day where you can get $1 off admission coupons at County Extension offices.
