Boys and Girls Clubs Gear Up for Glow 5k Run/Walk [INTERVIEW]
On Friday the 13th of June, the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri GLOW 5K Run/Walk will take place, presented by GNC of Sedalia. Join them on the State Fair Community College campus and "Glow Your Support" of the youth programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri! There are several different categories, and medals will be awarded to top three finishers in each age and gender category. They are doing this to raise money for their programs, like the summer programs. Those kicked off on June 2 and include a variety of fun activities for members of all ages.
The Club will offer several STEM-themed activities. This is a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. They have something cool they're calling the E-Lab, which allows members to build with special Lego kits to create solar-powered projects. They're also offering Conservation, which focuses on exploring nature habitats and wildlife; and Adventures in Science. The creative kids get to choose from Photography, Crafts, Art or Gardening, where they will build a vegetable and herb garden. And then, the kids who are more active can do things like Basic Sports, xBox and Wii Tournaments or Energy In/Out, a program that teaches members all about the importance of healthy eating habits and active lifestyles. I got to talk with Emily Jarrett, the Communications Coordinator for the Boys and Girls Club, about the summer activities and the Glow Run/walk, and how you can get involved.
You can learn more about the Summer Programs and the Glow Run by visiting their website. The first 50 participants will receive exclusive "glow swag" to light up the night. Cost to register is $25 (plus processing fees) for everyone, which includes a t-shirt - if you get it done before the walk. Thanks to their presenting sponsor, Sedalia GNC, as well as their other sponsors: State Fair SGA and State Fair's Nursing program. Race day registration is $30. Get out there and help the Boys and Girls Club this summer.
Glow-ily yours,
Behka
