Van Crashes Into Sedalia GNC in Thompson Hills Shopping Center
First responders were dispatched Thursday morning to an accident in the Thompson Hills Shopping Center after a van crashed into a storefront.
According to Battalion Chief Barry White with the Sedalia Fire Department, the accident happened just before 10 a.m. when a driver accidentally accelerated while parking. "We were dispatched to a vehicle that crashed into the front of GNC. Upon arrival we found a mini-van that was about halfway in the business. It broke the glass out of the front of the store, and part of the brick."
There were no customers inside the business at the time, and an employee that was inside was not injured. A passenger in the van suffered a minor cut on her arm.
"Luckily, the Thompson Hills Shopping Center already had some maintenance people on duty doing some other work, so they were able to quickly come over and we got the electrical lines shut off to the part of the store," said White. "No businesses on either side were damaged at all. They're back in business. GNC will be closed. They're going to work on getting boards up, and hopefully be back in operation by tonight or tomorrow."
An employee at GNC said the business is grateful that there were no serious injuries in the accident, and said that the building suffered no structural damage. GNC is planning to re-open ASAP, after the building has been boarded up and debris has been cleared from the scene.
