A St. Louis man drowned while swimming at Johnson's Shut-Ins in Reynolds County Tuesday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 24-year-old Emigdio F. Cuevas of St. Louis was swimming in the Black River around 4:20 p.m., Tuesday, began to struggle and was unable to resurface.

Cuevas was pronounced deceased on scene at 5:35 by Dr. Paul Jones, MD at the Iron County Medical Center.

This was Troop G's fifth drowning for 2023.
