Behka’s Enquiring Minds: Most Wanted Presents [SURVEY]

The toys kids are requesting most this year are things with names like Chomp and Stomp, Xeno, and Leapfrog TV.  I don’t even know what to make of that.

A website called MyHeritage wanted to figure out the ten most wanted Christmas toys from 100 years ago . . . so they dug through actual kids’ letters to Santa that newspapers published in 1914.   And the top 10 they came up with shows kids in 1914 had MUCH simpler requests.  Check it out . . .

1.  Candy.

2.  Nuts.

3.  A rocking horse.

4.  Dolls.

5.  Mittens or gloves.

6.  A toy train.

7.  Oranges.

8.  Books.

9.  Handkerchiefs.

10.  Ice Skates.

And the top 10 THIS year are:

1.  WowWee Robot MiP.  MIP is an interactive robot able to navigate its surroundings while controlled by hand movements using technology, or through a Bluetooth link to any smart device using the free app.

2.  Xeno.  Xeno toy is a cute, cheeky interactive baby monster that can display more than 40 different expressions through its animated LCD eyes, has pull-out snot dripping from its nose and can fart. Yep. And just a few generations ago…. Great Grandpa wanted MITTENS. To keep his HANDS FROM FREEZING. But now, we want robots that fart. ‘MURICA.

3.  My Friend Cayla Doll.  ‘My Friend Cayla‘ uses speech-to-text Google software synced via Bluetooth with a smartphone or tablet to look up answers to questions regarding general knowledge or sports results, speak her likes and dislikes, but uses no bad words or unsuitable content thanks to Google’s SafeSearch technology.

4.  Color Change Bag.  This can be held against any piece of clothing; and, pressing a button, it will match more than 100 different shades of the outfit the child is wearing! Now that is actually pretty darn cool. I would want that if I were a kid. Heck, I might want that now.

5.  Kiddizoom Smart Watch.  The VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch is a camera watch that also happens to tell time. It includes color touch screen and a motion sensor, and has three built-in games.

So just to remind you: MITTENS. AND MAYBE A HANDKERCHIEF OR AN ORANGE. Thank you, progress. I am happy that I live in an age where I can just go to a store and someone will give me a magical watch that can play games and take pictures.

6. Frozen: Ice Skating Dolls.  This collection features Elsa and Ana in ice skating form. Pretty straightforward. Most parents are pretty familiar with the Frozen drill.

7. Doh Vinci Vanity Box.  The Doh Vinci Vanity Box allows children to become 3D designers, targeting kids aged 6-12 years old. The DohVinci works like a glue gun. You load in the color you wish to print with, and then simply pull the trigger to make it print.

What, you can’t have a carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a “thing” that tells time?!!

8. Teksta T-Rex.  It walks forwards and backwards, moves his head from side to side, chews on his favorite bone and then spits it out with a “giant burp”. Zoomer Dino goes perfectly with Teksta T-Rex, apparently.

9. Leapfrog LeapTV.  The LeapFrog LeapTV is a gaming system for ages three to eight featuring Wi-Fi and a camera which captures activities covering reading, writing, science, mathematics, and social studies. Similar to their kids tablet, it is designed to help kids with their homework.

10. Transformers Chomp and Stomp Grimlock.  The Transformers Chomp and Stomp Grimlock is a 20 inch robot that changes with one step to a rampaging dinosaur. This is predicted to be a must-have Christmas gift for boys.

It got me to thinking about the stuff that I wanted for Christmas when I was a kid. I remember really wanting a Kid Sister doll (I got one), and wanting a Teddy Ruxpin.

So, why don’t we all think back a bit.  When you were a kid, what was that most wanted toy that you hoped to get for Christmas?  Now, this doesn’t have to be a present you GOT, it could just be something you wanted, whether you got it or not.  Or if you can’t remember, what are some of the things the kids in your life want this year?  Tell me all about it and we’ll share your answers on the air!

Giftingly yours,
