We Tried It: The Flaming Hot Cheetos Mac And Cheese

I saw it on the shelf.  I knew I probably would regret buying it, but I did it anyways. 

Me personally, I like the "Flaming Hot" stuff.  In most varieties, that is.  Husando likes the Funyuns version, I've liked the Cheetos and the Dill Pickle versions.  I thought this might be a bit of a stretch, but decided to go for it.

It was going to go alongside a nice chicken dish and some salad, so I thought that might cut the heat element and also bring more healthy parts to said dinner.  Balance.  You dig it.  So it started out just like any other mac and cheese from the box you might make.  Spirals, but that's not a huge deal.

Took forever to get the water to boil, but then it seems like it always does.  I never seem to choose the "fast boil" option on my stove.  Boil for seven minutes, move on to the rest of it.  A little butter, a little milk, and a neon red packet of cheese product. It definitely looked..........unnatural.

But hey, that's not the end of the world, right? Right.  Again, balance.

When I tried it, I thought it was nice, but maybe a little spicier than just eating some chips.  And I realized quickly that the portions were too much for two people.  There were going to be a lot of leftovers.

Husbando, meanwhile, did not care for it.  He said it was just as gross as the idea of the Pumpkin Spice mac and cheese I had told him about. But then, he also said he doesn't like things that hot, which... might be a lie.  I don't know.  Like I say, I've seen him eat the "Flaming Hot" stuff before, after all.  Maybe he only likes a bite or two at a time.

So final thoughts? I think if I were to buy it again, I wouldn't go with the full box.  They had little individual size cups as well. Probably should have gone with one of those.  That way Husbando gets his two to three bites, and I can have the rest, but it's not enough to really overpower anything.
