The 14th annual W-K Holiday Shootout got under way with the first set of area high school basketball games on Wednesday night at the SFCC Multipurpose Center.

Wednesday results:

The Northwest Mustangs won both their games against the Bunceton Dragons — the girls won, 43-27; and the boys won, 55-46.

Thursday results:

Tuscumbia girls beat New Franklin, 64-55. Senior Takayla Gunter was the top scorer for the Lady Lions with 37 points, while sophomore Madison Matney was the top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs with 20.

Tuscumbia boys beat New Franklin, 68-53. Junior Orrie Patterson was the top scorer for the Lions with 24 points, while junior Austin Jones was the top scorer for the Bulldogs with 15.

Lakeland girls beat Green Ridge, 58-24. Sophomore Annie Swaters was the top scorer for the Lady Vikings with 22 points, while senior Katie Gibbs was the top scorer for the lady Tigers with nine points.

Lakeland boys beat Green Ridge, 45-32. Senior Brady Munsterman was the top scorer for the Vikings with 18 points, while senior Peyton Needy was the top scorer for the Tigers with 20.

Friday results: The La Monte Lady Vikings edged out the Chilhowee Lady Indians, 33-32. Senior Madison Harris was the leading scorer for La Monte with 13, while senior Abby Swope was the leading scorer for Chilhowee  with 15.

The Chilhowee Indians beat the La Monte Vikings, 75-44. Freshman Gavin Johnson was the leading scorer for La Monte with 10, while senior Daniel Harness was the leading scorer for the Indians with 24.

The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers beat Sweet Springs, 54-48. Senior Allison Weekley was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers with 12, while sophomore Lynzi Miller was the leading scorer for Sweet Springs with 15.

The Pilot Grove Tigers beat Sweet Springs, 48-43. Junior Brady Rentel was the leading scorer with 14, while junior Lucas Eberting was the leading scorer for Sweet Springs, also with 14.

Saturday results: The Slater girls beat Smithton, 36-26. The Smithton Tigers beat Slater, 59-36.

The Skyline girls beat Windsor, 61-24. The Skyline boys beat Windsor, 56-44.

The Santa Fe girls beat Sacred Heart, 62-40. The Sacred Heart boys beat Santa Fe, 48-44.

The Smith-Cotton Lady Tigers beat Pleasant Hill, 51-38.

Dec. 28—Stover and Osage girls will play at 10:30 a.m. and the boys at noon. Otterville and St. Elizabeth girls will play at 1:30 p.m. and the boys at 3 p.m. Tipton and Russellville girls will play at 4:30 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m. Concordia and Lincoln girls will play at 7:30 p.m and the boys at 9 p.m.

Dec. 29—Warsaw and Marshall girls will play at noon and the boys at 1:30 p.m. Mack's Creek and Knob Noster girls will play at 3 p.m. and the boys at 4:30 p.m. The Rich Hill and Cole Camp girls will play at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 a day per person. Youth 12 and under are admitted free.

The title sponsor of the event is W-K Chevrolet. Co-sponsors are McDonald’s, Chouteau Water, Pepsi, Ditzfeld and Weaver Charter Service, LLC, BackBone of Health, Hank’s Portables and Septic Services.

Tom Knight, former athletic director at Smith-Cotton High School, came up with the idea for the shoot-out 13 years ago. SFCC hosted the first shoot-out in 2001.
