Two people were injured in a wreck that occurred on I-70 in Jackson County Wednesday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that an eastbound 2012 Mazda driven by 29-year-old Ginger L. Brooks of Oak Grove entered the roadway from the right shoulder in front of an eastbound 2017 Peterbilt driven by 58-year-old Kevin J. McLaughlin of Kansas City. The Peterbilt then struck the Mazda at 8:39 a.m. on I-70, west of Route BB.

Both drivers, who were wearing their seat belts, suffered serious injuries and were transported to Centerpoint Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were totaled.

A total of eight Troopers responded to the accident scene.

Brooks was later arrested by the Patrol at 9:30 a.m. and charged with several counts, including felony leaving the scene of an accident, three counts of felony possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and careless and imprudent driving.
