
Two Injured in Fiery Crash on I-44
Two Missouri drivers were injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred on I-44 Wednesday afternoon in Phelps County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two vehicles, a 2020 Peterbilt 389 and a 2022 Dodge Durango were stopped in the eastbound lanes of I-44 near the 192 mile marker (between Rolla and St. James), around 1:30 p.m., when an eastbound 2020 Volvo VNL, driven by a 54-year-old man from Palm Coast Florida, failed to stop and struck the rear of the trailer towed by the Peterbilt. The Peterbilt was pushed into the Durango and both vehicles traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest in the separator.
The Volvo traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a median barrier cable. The Volvo then became engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Peterbilt (from Uniontown) and the driver of the Durango (from Rolla) both suffered minor injuries and were transported to Phelps Health Hospital for treatment.

The Peterbilt had minor damage, the Dodge Durango had moderate damage and the Volvo was totaled. All three vehicles were towed from the scene.
Lanes in both directions were closed for hours while the scene as being processed and cleaned up.
