Okay guys, I know that's a lot. But, it might be true? I mean, I also wouldn't fault you if you just made a joke about my lack of intelligence or something.  Let's unpack that.

So I have been one of those people throughout my adult life, where it seems like I am always dealing with seasonal allergies.  Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, doesn't matter.  My nose runs a lot.  I've tried everything.  I've tried Flonase, Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra....you name it, I've probably been on it at some point. Admittedly I have not tried double dosing.  I've heard of people doing that.  But I haven't.  So I kind of just deal with it. You know, like most of us do.

So anyway, I heard this story, and I thought, "Oh,..ew, no."

A Syrian man recently found out that his chronic runny nose, which he wrote off as a cold, was fluid leaking from his brain. The unidentified 20-year-old started experiencing the runny nose, as well as headaches and seizures, six years earlier after sustaining a head injury in a car accident and refusing medical treatment, ...he was admitted to the hospital and placed in the intensive care unit, where an MRI revealed a fracture in his skull and an encephalocele — a condition in which the tissue covering the brain, and a portion of the brain itself, protrude through openings in the skull — had developed in his nasal cavity. Happily, after undergoing surgery to put everything back in its proper place, the man is back home and the headaches, runny nose and seizures have stopped.

Ummm... guys?  Story time.

So here at the stations, we have several rooms that we use as studios, and one of them in the back is a sort of catch all type of studio. We used to use it for client recordings, stuff like that.  And you could get CDs to use for music for commercials, stuff like that.  We don't really do that anymore, but you get it.

Warning: Grossness ahead.

So anyway, I was back in this room looking for a CD with two of my colleagues, neither of whom work here anymore.  I leaned over and tilted my head to the side, and.... well.  Quite literally, fluid like, leaked from one side of my nose.  It was kind of clear but also very watery, and slightly yellow in color.  It just.. flew out of there, like it was nothing. It was like I turned my head, and water just poured out of my  nose like a faucet.

It was so gross, you guys.

Since this story with the Syrian Guy came back up, I decided to go and just check and see if there's something I need to be worried about.  After all, this was years ago, and if there was something wrong, it might still be wrong, right?  Right.  Left.  THIRD BASE!

I did have a scare with seizures when I was a teenager, and they took me to get a bunch of tests and stuff.  You know, the kind where they put stickers covered in petroleum jelly into your hair and on your chest and stuff.  They didn't find anything then..... maybe it's been sitting in wait! Maybe it's been silently killing me year after year with what I've been ignoring as sniffles!  Maybe it's going to be a long, dramatic fight with doctors, nurses and my own sanity!  Why is life like this?  It's so expensive and I'm not even having that good a time!

Well guys, turns out I should have, you know, listened to the non-panicky part of my brain. A quick look at the side by side symptoms, and....nah, guys. That's not me. I had a liquid running out once, but never had a metallic taste in my mouth (as far as I remember), and I've never had any lack of smell, ringing in my ears or headaches. In fact, it became clear quickly that I jumped to conclusions.

Isn't that always the way, though?  Here I was, ready to give myself over to a life of health problems in a hypochondriac minute. But, you can learn something from my nose, and that is.... not only that it's gross, but sometimes a dirty fibber.

Truthfully yours,
Behka

LOOK: Stunning vintage photos capture the beauty of America's national parks

Today these parks are located throughout the country in 25 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The land encompassing them was either purchased or donated, though much of it had been inhabited by native people for thousands of years before the founding of the United States. These areas are protected and revered as educational resources about the natural world, and as spaces for exploration.
